Werner is shareholder and CEO of Optimum Insure Consulting, part of the Optimum Financial Services Group of Companies.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in business management at the University of Central England in 2004.

He has been a part of the Optimum family since 1994 prior to pursuing his professional Rugby career as part of the Springbok team who won the tri-nations in 1998 and he was also part of the 1999 world cup team that finished third in the tournament after beating the All Blacks in the play offs. He was also part of the squad who, until recently had the most consecutive test wins, with 17 test wins under Nick Mallet.

After he retired from his rugby career, he joined the Optimum Group once again in 2009. Werner has 11 years' experience in the Commercial and Personal lines Insurance Industry.

Werner is still involved with Super Sport, and is also a Super Sport presenter, as well as a motivational speaker.

Werner and his family also share a passion to serve the community by giving back with every available opportunity through their annual Friends for Charity fund raising events.

Werner's hobbies includes playing golf, and taking part in mountain biking races and events.
